We breed and train white rock doves, also known as homing pigeons (Columba livia). These are the only type of doves that should be released at outdoor functions.Homing pigeons (rock doves) are the preferred type of bird for ceremonial releases because of their ability to fly home from up to 600 miles away.
Keeping these beautiful birds is as much a labor of love as it is a business. Caring for them takes a significant amount of money, time and love. They are loved members of our family, are fed high-quality feed, and vaccinated as appropriate to maintain their health. Our homing pigeons (Rock Doves) are domesticated birds of pure-bred lineage that are well-fed, healthy, humanely kept, loved and named. They love to bathe and are bathed weekly as well. Though their ability to return home on their own is instinct, we practice with them to ensure they know home. Looking after them is rewarded to us by their good temperament, excellent health and reliability to return home.
Although we are very accommodating to the unique requirements of all of our clients. Please understand that there are some instances where we simply cannot release our birds for fear of their safety and well-being. This includes extreme distances, extreme weather, presence of birds of prey and time of day to name a few. Releases need to be done early enough for the birds to have time to get home before sunset. We also monitor weather conditions and will not do a release if rain or heavy wind will impede their homing abilities.
